私の生徒マットさんは、中学校までホームスクーリングで教育を受けていました。
しかし、日本ではホームスクーリングは一般的ではありません。
My student Matt was homeschooled until middle school.

アメリカでは、公教育への信頼度がそれほど高くありません。
そのため、家庭で教育を選ぶ人も一定数います。
In the United States, public education is not always highly trusted.
Because of this, some families choose homeschooling as an alternative.
2. 日本の背景 / The Japanese Context
日本では、公教育への信頼度が高く、義務教育制度がしっかりしています。
さらに、日本は集団生活を重んじる文化があり、学校は「社会性を育てる場」と考えられています。
In Japan, public education is highly trusted, and compulsory education is firmly established.
Moreover, Japanese culture values group life, and school is often seen as a place to develop social skills.
3. イメージの違い / Differences in Perception
アメリカでは、ホームスクーリングは「家庭の教育方針」として受け入れられています。
一方、日本では「社会性が育たないのではないか」とネガティブに捉えられることが多いです。
実際に私自身も、そのように感じてしまうところがあります。
In the U.S., homeschooling is accepted as a “family’s educational choice.”
In contrast, in Japan it is often viewed negatively, with concerns that children may “not develop social skills.”
Even I personally find myself feeling that way sometimes.
4. 学習のための語彙 / Vocabulary for Learners
- 義務教育（ぎむきょういく）= compulsory education
- 不登校（ふとうこう）= school refusal / absenteeism
- 社会性（しゃかいせい）= social skills
- 教育方針（きょういくほうしん）= educational policy / philosophy
まとめ / Conclusion
ホームスクーリングと公教育は、国によって見方が大きく異なります。
教育制度だけでなく、文化や社会の価値観が反映されているのです。
Homeschooling and public education are seen very differently depending on the country.
This reflects not only the education system, but also cultural and social values.
